About

KnowledgeEconomy.com is still in its start-up phase.  This site is managed by Knowledge Economy Ventures (KE Ventures), a company owned Calhoun “Reb” Thomas.  Mr. Thomas is a Registered Patent Attorney in the United States and a social entrepreneur.

Mr. Thomas’ background includes a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, a Juris Doctorate (JD) from the University of South Carolina School of Law, and a Master of Laws in Taxation (LLM) from Emory University School of Law (this LLM degree would have been considered awarded “With Distinction” if Emory had instituted that program a few years earlier).  Mr. Thomas has practiced in small law offices, a large law firm and in-house with a large, publicly held software and services company.  Notwithstanding an Economics undergrad degree, in 2002 Mr. Thomas qualified for and passed the Patent Bar Exam on his first attempt.  For the past decade Mr. Thomas has maintained his own law firm; the last five years with an associate who is also a Registered Patent Attorney.  Update: This former associate has now opened his own firm, but Mr. Thomas continues to use his services as associated counsel.  The Thomas Law Firm continues to assist clients with intellectual property matters and software and services contract matters, but Mr. Thomas is beginning to limit his law practice workload in order to spend more time as described below.  Mr. Thomas is licensed to practice in South Carolina and Georgia and is also approved as a Circuit Court Mediator in South Carolina.

As he decreases the time spent on his IP law practice, Mr. Thomas is increasing his time commitment to his work in developing the Knowledge Economy® blog and related sites.  Through KE Ventures, he is also working to develop the Knowledge Economy Network among leaders and knowledge workers in universities, businesses and other organizations.
